Park at McCarran Tag

On March 2nd, Dermody Properties and Locus Development Group as the project Developer team and United Construction as the Design-Builder were honored with awards for NAIOP Northern Nevada Industrial Park of the Year (Park at McCarran) and Industrial Build-to-Suit of the Year (Building 1 Ames). Since the NAIOP CRE Awards event was not held in 2023, the 2024 event was held to recognize projects completed in 2022 and 2023.

With the sheer size and scale of this development, United Construction people drove this project to successful completion over the 2-1/2-year project development timeline. This project was designed and built during the pandemic and broke ground just as supply chain issues started causing long lead times for various equipment and materials and the subsequent unpredictable material cost escalations.

Our deepest thanks and appreciation go to Locus Development Group (Joel Grace) and Dermody Properties (John Ramous) for selecting United Construction as their Design-Build partner on this remarkable project. We also thank the Ames, InnoPak, Candle Science and Fidelitone companies that occupied all the buildings as initial tenants.

Numerous United Construction team members who were responsible for successfully delivering these facilities deserve our utmost recognition include Audrey Mackey, Carrie Dyer, Casey Gunther, Jeremy Kearns, Chuck Brown, Dylan McAninch, Pete Brunner, Paul Laird, Sandy Penny, Catherine Bernauer, Chris Bennett, Keith Deutscher, Glady Robinette, Ken Rice, Leman Jones and Mark Byars.

United Construction has over 45 years’ experience designing and building industrial and manufacturing facilities, and for the Park at McCarran development was able to assemble the best project management/control team, consultants, vendors and subcontractors to successfully navigate and mitigate the project regulatory, permitting, schedule and financial challenges that were encountered on the project. This is what United Construction always does best, day in and day out for and with our customers.

Congratulations everyone!

Our Park at McCarran project and field team welcomed the NAIOP Northern Nevada Developing Leaders onsite yesterday for a tour of Buildings 1-3. We had a great time showing these young construction and development professionals the immense progress of the park, both inside and outside. They were a delight to have! Thank you, Developing Leaders, for taking the time out of your day to experience the Park at McCarran construction site!

If you’ve driven through the Mill Street and McCarran intersection in Reno recently, you may have noticed a new structure tilted up at Park at McCarran. Our site crews recently finished tilting one of the industrial buildings, marking the completion of a major milestone for the project. Superintendent Chuck Brown oversaw the progress onsite and ensured the tilt-up commenced safely and efficiently. Drone photography done by Ryland Sweigard (along with a corresponding video) showcases this successful process.

Progress is moving full steam ahead at the Park at McCarran project site, located on the corner of Mill Street and McCarran Blvd in Reno. Crews recently commenced the project’s very first concrete slab pour, and more progress is quickly and efficiently afoot. The two-building design-build project will total more than 350,000 square feet of industrial space upon completion.

“A development plan that started out with five modest-sized speculative industrial buildings turned into one of the single largest industrial buildings in Northern Nevada.”

These words, as stated by the Northern Nevada Business Weekly (NNBW), describe one of our major industrial projects, Park at McCarran – specifically the project’s significant anchor building. Northern Nevada is playing a vital part in the growing industrial industry, and Park at McCarran has made a notable impact within that industry locally.

According to John Ramous of Dermody Properties, “It’s the largest single infill development I can recall in the last decade. There just aren’t too many buildings like this.”

United Construction plans to complete the project by May 2022.

The NNBW published a feature story about the project, highlighting the involvement and hard work of both United Construction and Dermody Properties. Read the story here.
