The Jennifer M. O’Neal Community Ice Arena (“Reno Ice”) is a 3.83-acre National Hockey League regulation ice rink totaling 38,843 square-feet. The site features 30 miles of corrugated tubing that house aqua ammonia to freeze the ice; over 17,000 plastic grids to hold the tubing, keeping the floor at 23 degrees Fahrenheit; 4″ thick ice on the rink floor; and a reverse osmosis system to recycle the water through the Zamboni pit and into the Zamboni. United Construction teamed up with Frame Architecture for the design and Reno Engineering Corporation for the civil engineering.
A facility owned by the nonprofit Greater Reno Community Ice Skating Association, Reno Ice is the first year-round ice rink in Reno. Donors and advocates for the ice arena emphasize the benefit it brings the community, including hockey, sled hockey, broom ball, curling, figure skating, power skating, open skating, birthday parties and other community events.
